About Union We are a small town in beautiful Eastern Oregon. Union sits in an ancient lake bed in the Grande Ronde Valley near La Grande. To the east lie the Wallow Mountains and the Eagle Cap Wilderness. To the northwest lay the Blue Mountains, the infamous Cabbage Hill and Pendleton (Home of the Pendleton Round-Up). South of Union are the Elkhorns, Baker City and Oregon Trail Interpretive Center. This is an area rich in the history of rugged pioneers - visionary men and women who forged a prosperous town out of the wilderness.
Union is primarily an agricultural community. More people in our valley are involved in farming and ranching than any other industry. We are one of the few places in Oregon where you can keep a horse in your backyard - provided your backyard is big enough. We enjoy our cowboy heritage and outdoor lifestyle. We don't have traffic jams, rush hours or long lines at the grocery store. Here in Union, the owner of the grocery store knows your name and cuts your steaks exactly how you want them!
And yet, with all our small town charm, we are not without our resources. We may not have a shopping mall, but we do have an 18-hole tournament quality golf course. This summer, beautiful new homes will be going up around that golf course for those who want to wake up to a breathtaking view of the valley every morning. We have a state university just 15 miles away - Eastern Oregon University. We have DSL and wireless internet that allows many of us to telecommute to Portland, Salem, or virtually anywhere, while enjoying our chosen lifestyle. We have an incredible school district that can boast small class sizes and personal attention. We have a medical clinic staffed with a doctor and dentist, a wonderful pharmacy, a great hardware store, a lumber yard, an outdoor sporting store, restaurants, and many other businesses. A person would never have to leave our little town to get what they need.
Think we exaggerate? Come see for yourself - but be warned - you may never want to leave!
